Today's Meeting

Hey Everybody,

The first meeting was a great start. It was refreshing to hear so many ideas about the current state of affairs and the collective notion that something can be done about them. Budget cuts across California have affected us all in a myriad of ways - education, healthcare and other vital social programs are more of human rights than just a way to close a financial gap that can be fixed by other means. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again next Thursday and hearing more ideas.

Also here is Jen's E - Mail from tonight in case you missed it. It lists some important upcoming dates including tomorrows event.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for coming to the meeting today, it was great to hear all of your comments!

Because we were quasi-kicked out of the room today, I just wanted to send you all some quick info about upcoming events/ items of interest:

This Friday (tomorrow) there is the discussion and presentation about the Carpenters' Wildcat Strike and the Bluecross Strike. I believe you all received a flier, this should be very informative and relevant to what is happening today with BART and NUMMI workers. Doors open at 6:30; starts at 7:00. Because the door is self-locking someone will be waiting outside to hold the door so please be on time/ 5 minutes early or so. Bonus: There are going to be cookies! :-)

This Sunday there is a showing of the play "The Farm" (based on Orwel's Animal Farm) at John Hinkel Park at 4pm. This event is free (donations accepted). You can find more info at shotgunplayers.org ... the park is located at Southhampton, between San Diego Rd and Somerset Pl in Berkeley. We can meet there if people want to, otherwise it's an interesting thing to do on a Sunday.

Lastly, the movie District 9 is out. It is about an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on earth who suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology. So, yes, very sci-fi, but I think it will address a lot of race/class issues we face in America today. It would be great if people wanted to organize a time/day to watch this together.

Also, for next week, if anyone is able to flier before our next meeting that would be great. If you want to flier with someone, I will be there Monday and Wednesday from 1130-1230, Marc will be there Wed 12-1, and Todd will be there Tuesday 12-1. Otherwise we can coordinate copies of fliers for you if you want to do it at a different time.

Thanks for your time!
Jen
